Perhaps if the government are so convinced ev's are the way to go they should get rid of all their ice cars and only drive around in ev's. Maybe they should also stop going to foreign countries on private planes just to say hello to a foreign minister and have a meeting, what's wrong with a zoom call? Thta would reduce CO2. I am not anti ev and if you want to buy or lease one then I don't see this as an issue but it should be up to the individual.
For some an ev will make a lot of sense, around 4 miles per kwh means you pay around 6p to 7p per mile, even in my Golf each mile costs me in fuel alone around 12p to 14p. Public charging has to be below 50p per kwh to make sense in my opinion. Battery health, safety and cost is also an issue that needs to be addressed and will probably be in time but the chemistry is not quite there yet and may be won't be for another 10+ years.
Junk after 5 years. After all the fuel used to mine whats needed, the torn up land, the toxic chemicals to extract whats needed, the fuel to make those chemicals which are just dumped, the fuel to get the stuff to the factory to make the battery, the fuel the factory uses and it's dumped toxic waste, the fuel to move the battery to the car factory. Then if it doesn't explode and burn your house down it has to be gotten rid of. REALLY.
how can they make sales targets if no-one wants to buy them typical braindead politicians idiot nonsense
Best for the environment is a modest car that lasts 30 years. Exactly what the manufacturers don’t want to sell! Just bought a used MX30 with a Mazda comprehensive warranty for 80 000 miles until 2031! Home charge and dirt cheap servicing. Sorted!
What's going to become of all the used EVs that there are no buyers for? We are heading up a tapered tunnel. As you said , I now believe they are doing more damage to the planet .
years ago I was sold a 30KWh leaf 2016 plate brand-new, and was told all about the zap-map etc, back then charging was free and you got mostly free parking, however…I was thrown under the bus as I was sold one without the advice of how painful not having a home-charger would be.
So corporations buy ev then sell them used to average people who dont have that big of demand making the prices of them going down, i fail to see how this is bad for the average peoplation
This all sounds to good to be true rock bottom prices on used ev’s. 😂😂😂
Last I heard, several of the Chinese car makers are in deep trouble. That being the case, then anybody buying any of their models, is taking a massive risk of losing warranty, and spare parts availability.
I recently took on a lease against a new Nissan Leaf. For less than £200 a month I got a high spec Leaf, 8000 mile per annum, full maintenance and tyres included and breakdown cover. It’s a 4 year lease and at the end it’ll be worth nothing so I’ll possibly get to buy it after the lease ends for pennies.
Lock the focus on your camera mate. It will stop it hunting when you move your hands about.
Electric cars are shit otherwise there would be no incentives , good products sell themselves
£200 a week in depreciation.
What a great idea
How is ‘living in a hot or cold climate’ going to have any effect on used EV batteries in the uk….?
They are all in the same climate!!!
Interested to hear your views on the shortcomings of EV's? vs what other tech?
Agree. Battery health certificates alongside the usual HPI certificates would help. So would regulating repairable batteries and the mandatory supply of parts for 20 years so a repair industry can grow. Then cancel the tax on commercial chargers so prices fall in line with home charging. standardisation of charging cables (as the uk did with the national grid), regulated fixed pricing for contactless payment (no app required though they can of course offer additional discounts) and severe fines for every out of order charger to encourage more reliable devices. Lots the govt could do if they actually wanted us to drive EVs. In the mean time, I’ve just bought another diesel based on the thinking that I keep my cars until they’re 13 or more and I can’t trust an EV to last that long.
I dont think cheap chinese EVs are a problem for western manufacturers EVs. People are not saying "oh i'd rather pay 250 per month than 800". People can't afford 800. Chinese EVs are replacing ICE sales not western EV sales.
With the newly released buying incentives, this is only about to get MUCH worse.
Listen to you.. you’re talking like the uk are big into evs… in fact they’re way behind most other countries.. Norway is at 98% new car ev registrations.. and they taught the uk a lesson on oil and gas.. don’t get caught out twice
Are you on another planet? Ev sales in 2025 up 35% … diesel cars are currently only 5-6% of new car market…… diesel is dead..
What a biased anti-EV load of tosh. Just a scatter-gun. Are you feeling sorry for the lease companies? If they continue to lose money, then lease rates will increase. The low price of second hand values helps buying second hand prices. 27% increase in chargers, but agree need off road charging solutions. I recently paid 35p/kWh for rapid charging – thought that ok. Scaremongering Chinese cars – that’s the same argument used with Japanese cars in the 1970s & Korean cars in 2000s. Don’t buy one. My almost 5 year old Honda e is worth ~50% of its purchase price. When I handed my 3 year PCP Ioniq 5 back it was worth 50%. Seconds again ok. And as for battery failure being a big thing – look at Jonny Smith Late Brake Show recent Tesla Model S P90D for £5k at 266000 miles. Yours was a very poorly argued video
Everyone I know with an EV has it through work, mobility or on lease.
You'd be mad to buy one new and second hand the battery is a potential ticking time bomb 🫰💷
Invest it developing cheaper synthetic fuel………..win win
Leasing companies got their maths totally wrong on EV leases, in particular their assumptions about residual value. Blows a huge hole in their economics.
Buying a Chinese EV outright is a scary proposition, imagine the problems you are going to have when they reach a few years old.
I’ve been looking for a new car and within my 12-13k budget, a 4 year old top of the range EV was for sale at my local main dealer.
Everything looked ok, low mileage etc.
I walked away in the end – the car didn’t not come with any warranty and there was no option to purchase one. Yes, there was 4 years left on the battery warranty but for a car with all that tech, I wouldn’t touch it.
Ended up buying a petrol Hyundai. 1 year warranty as standard, fresh service and MOT and no fear of an unknown depreciation.
My Honda Jazz does around 55mpg, it’s at 90000 miles and only things I’ve had to replace are tires/brakes/windscreen wipers. For £10000 it’s a no brainer rather than risk 30000 on an EV
It’s worth bearing in mind that used EV prices are impacted by both supply and demand. Supply has risen massively over the last year or so as lease deals come to an end. Demand is actually up massively too, just not as much as supply and it is this mismatch that is causing prices to fall. But it’s not, as some channels would have you believe, because nobody wants an EV – they’re increasingly popular (and for good reason).
Very interesting indeed, every potential car buyer needs to watch this.
Completely agree, the problem isn’t with the number of chargers available, there’s plenty, but waaaayyy too expensive
Personally I'd rather get the bus than drive a Chinese car, but then I'll probably find the bus was Chinese.
Im not an electric car lover as in fact s i drive a V8 tdi but you are pretty stupid in what you say
When I use a EV rapid charger the cost works out at 4x the cost of diesel plus the downtime,it’s simply crazy
EV battery life certificate? When did you last get an IC Engine life certificate when buying a used car? Never. So the ICE might have been thrashed, no oil changed, driven at high load/low rpm and not show signs of failure, yet.
In a word EVs are a total waste of time 😄
I think both new and used car prices across the board are crazy. I'm on a average income and our vehicles are 13 and 7 years old. I was looking to replace the oldest car but our budget gets us a 6-7 year old car with a patchy history. We don't have enough spare a month to lease with all bills and cost of living going up. Talking to friends and colleagues, a lot are in the same boat. I won't be going EV or getting a new car anytime soon. So until the government can address this situation that many of us are in, there won't be much of an EV uptake.
isn’t this similar to fleets of BMW 320ds and 520ds being sold to fleet buyers back in the day?
Why should we care if lease companies lose money? Why is it bad that secondhand EV's cheap? That just makes the affordable for ordinary people. High depreciation has always existed on high end ice cars that were bought by fleets I have bought some in the past, three years old Insignia 60,000 miles on the clock £32,000 brand new I got it for £11,500. When you buy any high end car with high mileage EV or ICE you always have the risk of a big bill. How much does an engine rebuild or replacement cost? Same with the gear box. Not to mention catalytic converters or DPF's. Plus meeting the Mot emissions standards with an old engine. There are many EV's with over 100,000 miles on them (Taxis particularly) still running perfectly well, shorter range of course but are you saying old ice cars with worn engines still get the same mpg? That is the same thing.
